Lip flip vs. lip filler
A Botox lip flip relaxes the muscle above the upper lip so more of it shows; lip filler adds volume and shape with a hyaluronic acid gel. At Neoderma in Anaheim, a flip is a flat $150 and lasts about 3–4 months; lip filler starts at $695 a syringe and lasts up to 12 months.

|---|---|---|
| What it is | A few small units of Botox along the upper lip line | Hyaluronic acid gel (Juvéderm, RHA) placed inside the lip |
| What it changes | Relaxes the muscle so the upper lip rolls outward and shows more pink | Adds volume, defines the border, can balance asymmetry and treat the lower lip |

| Price at Neoderma | $150 flat | From $695 per syringe (Juvéderm Ultra XC); $795 for Volbella XC, Vollure XC and RHA |
| How long it lasts | About 3–4 months (Neoderma's published Botox average) | Up to 12 months with Juvéderm Ultra XC and Volbella XC |
| When it shows | 3–7 days; full effect around 10–14 days | Immediately, settling over the following days |
| If you change your mind | Wears off completely on its own | Can be dissolved with hyaluronidase |

When is a lip flip better than filler?
Take two photos of yourself: one with your mouth relaxed, one mid-laugh. If the lips in the first look fine and the upper lip in the second has all but gone, you are the person Neoderma steers toward a flip. The lip has enough to it already; the smile is what hides it, and a flip changes only that.
Undecided counts too. For a flat $150, with nothing placed in the lip and an effect that runs out on its own, a flip is the cheapest way to learn whether you want any change around your mouth at all. Neoderma treats it as a starting point in its own right, a common first step before filler enters the conversation.
When is lip filler the better choice?
Ask a flip to sharpen the border, even one side against the other, add to the lower lip, or make either lip bigger and it will fail. Each of those means putting something into the lip, and a relaxed muscle holds nothing. That is a hyaluronic acid filler's job, and Neoderma's experience is that one conservative syringe is where most first-timers land.
The lip trend has moved from volume to restraint, and Neoderma's own lip-filler guidance is that starting with less product than you expect is usually right. Read their natural lip filler guide for how much is too much, and their dermal fillers page for the full product menu.
What if neither a flip nor filler is right?
A third outcome is common enough to deserve its own heading: no needle at all. When the real complaint turns out to be the skin around the mouth, its texture or fine lines, rather than the lip itself, Neoderma's answer is a skin-care plan, and they say so instead of injecting something you do not need.
Can you combine a lip flip with lip filler?
Yes. Because they do different things, a flip and filler are sometimes combined: filler for the shape, a flip so the shape still shows when you smile. That is a decision for the consultation, where the provider watches your lips move and recommends the minimum that gets you what you asked for.

Flip or filler?
Can I have a lip flip and lip filler together?
Yes. They do different jobs, so they are sometimes combined: filler for volume and shape, a flip so the result shows when you smile. Whether that makes sense for you is a consultation question, and at Neoderma the provider will tell you if one of them alone would do.
Is a lip flip cheaper than filler?
Considerably, per visit. At Neoderma a lip flip is a flat $150, while lip filler starts at $695 a syringe for Juvéderm Ultra XC and $795 for Volbella XC. Filler also lasts longer, up to 12 months, so the yearly cost is closer than the sticker price suggests.
Which one looks more natural?
Either can, in the right hands and the right dose. The flip is the subtler of the two because it adds nothing. Neoderma's guidance on filler is that most first-timers do well with one conservative syringe, and that starting with less than you expect is usually right.
What if I regret it?
A lip flip wears off on its own in about 3–4 months and cannot be reversed early. Hyaluronic acid filler lasts longer but can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. Both are temporary, which is a large part of why they are the two most common first lip treatments.
Not sure which one you need? That is what the consultation is for.
